Rookie Magazine // Please Mr. Postman

Rookie Mag has been one of my favorite internet reads for some time now even though I seemed to have missed the marketed age bracket. Rookie, a site for teenage girls, broke 1 million page views within 5 days of launching in September of 2011, and contributors have included Miranda July, Dan Savage, Joss Whedon, JD Samson, Zooey Deschanel, Sady Doyle, Lesley Arfin, and Cindy Gallop. I've developed a bit of a girl crush on the founder Tavi Gevinson. (She is 15 and a sophomore in high school!) Tavi has also written for publications such as Harper's Bazaar, Jezebel, Lula, and Pop, and is a contributing editor to GARAGE magazine.

"Please Mr. Postman"  features dresses from a few of my favorite ladies: Lauren of Blooming Leopold, Nadia of Nadinoo, and Leah Goren to name a few. Styled by Jaclyn Bethany and photographed by Erica Segovia, the pictures below make me long to have every one of these cute little dresses hanging up in my closet.

I love the juxtaposition of the gray bob and piercings with the ultra feminine dresses. Perfect! Make sure to check out the full spread here and the rest of Rookie Mag!

There is Thunder in Our Hearts

Ever since I received my tote from Anabela of Fieldguided over a year ago, I have been using it almost everyday for just about anything you could imagine. This tote bag seriously does not seem to have any limits to what I can stuff into it. I use the tote for thrifting expeditions, grocery shopping, lugging my stuff to work, traveling, etc.

These photos were snapped after Z and I visited the Treasure Island Flea Market, walked around the Mission, visited Thrift Town and Clothes By the Pound, and then ate some ice cream at Humphry Slocombe.

Land's End

I had posted about this hike on my tumblr awhile back (here are other film centered / personal entries), but thought that I should share it here on blogger as well:

A couple of weekends ago, Z and I went to Land's End for some hiking with our bro-dog Finnegan. According to the website, "The trails at Lands End offer a cliff-top walk through shadowy cypress, with scenic overlooks, 30-mile views of the coast, and foot access to several shoreline pocket beaches."  Finnegan, being the pudgy dog that he is, did not enjoy this excursion and was dying to get back home and sleep for the next 14 hours straight like he usually does on Sundays. You can see photos of me dragging him along the trail down below:

Finnegan's favorite part of the hike was resting on this bench for 15 minutes in the shade. What a lazy dog. I guess it's hard to move around with ease when you have the body of a baked potato.

Day to Night

On this typical San Francisco day, Z and I decided to explore a different neighborhood that we typically never venture into.  After trekking to Pacific Heights, we were determined to have brunch at a place where the Yelp reviews were "super highly recommended". We got to the restaurant and where we discovered that the line for brunch went around the street corner. Our stomachs were growling in hunger so we decided on the breakfast place right across the street. We were immediately seated and served delicious food.  Maybe next time we'll get to try the original brunch spot, but oh well.

After brunch, we walked around for a bit, watched a movie, and then decided to take photos in front of people's houses. This sounded like a good idea at the time.

“Hey! Take a picture of me in front of this bulldozer! I promise you, it will be the most awesome photo ever!”—Some bro

Instagram the Weekend

I still have a bunch of film that I've taken from Z and I's trip down to SoCal. We attended a wedding, visited the Huntington Library, and spend time with my family. I can't wait to see how those pictures turned out! Until then, here are some photos that I've taken using instagram to document some past weekend activities:
