Meet the Mods

Carlotta Cardana is a photographer based in London, UK. These images are from her personal project (titled "Mod Couples") on partners who belong to the “mod scene”, a subculture that originated in Britain in the late fifties and became very popular during the sixties. Cardana was drawn to couples over individuals because of the way their identities blend together. Cardana says:
"I am also quite interested in the relationship between a person and his or her surrounding environment, in seeing how they complement each other. Consequently, I took elaborate planning out of the equation when making these pictures: the couples chose what to wear and where to be photographed. The world depicted in the pictures is entirely the world they have created for themselves."
I was first attracted to their eye-catching style, but the portraits go beyond their appearance and delve further into the lifestyle from the styling of their homes, to musical preferences, and other subculture elements. It's a fascinating and inspiring series for any vintage lover.

Fishy Eye

Here are some photos that I captured awhile ago using my Lomo Fisheye camera. It took a bit getting used to since the subject of the photo should be closer to the lens than normal. Taking photos up close (and not really using the view finder) proved to be more difficult than I initially considered. You can't really be certain exactly how the photo will turn out...but I think these photos were a nice surprise. These snap shots are from random parts of San Francisco and Ventura. I would keep my camera in my purse and take photos of the passing scenery while out running errands. I walk by some of these houses/buildings everyday and sometimes it takes looking through different lens to realize the beauty in mundane things.

The White Pepper

After seeing their beautiful photos all over the tumblr-sphere and pinterest boards, I just had to check out The White Pepper for myself. The White Pepper is a UK boutique that is part of the ASOS marketplace. Their collection is a mix of unique vintage pieces and indie designer originals with handmade detailed items.  The street style fashion photography seen in White Pepper's photos are truly lovely, yet it is styled in a way that is not really common in the United States.  The clothing and accessories seem comfortable, but also bring a certain elevated stylishness for when you're running errands, meeting friends at the park, or simply going for a quick bike ride. I've had my eye on a couple of pieces from their boutique, so I'll check back once I've purchased/received something. Make sure to take a look at White Pepper's Boutique!
