Pumpkin Pies & Turkey Thighs

I just finished my finals last week so now I am free to blog again! Thanksgiving was wonderful and there were fifty billion different types of pumpkin desserts, which was not exactly a bad thing. My sister is a master chef and was in charge of the main dish for the evening--the turkey! Z and I contributed some red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and raspberries. Since I live so far away from my family now, I really cherish these times that we can get together. We played a rousing game of LIFE (which I really don't remember being so long and complicated when I was younger) and talked about when the next time would be that we could all get together and eat more food!

I am wearing a dress from Nadinoo that came right in time for Thanksgiving and is the perfect holiday dress because it hides my holiday tummy. When I received the dress I was blown away by how lovely and well made it was. It was even more beautiful in person than I could have ever imagined...and it fit like a dream! I am so glad I was able to purchase a dress of her's. I have been lusting after them for so long! How was your Thanksgiving? What's your favorite Thanksgiving dish?

I can't wait to see my family again this Christmas!

Instagram Diary

I'm back in cold San Francisco after a nice weekend (too short!) with my family down in Ventura. I think I practically spent the entire weekend eating since most of my Instagram photos are of food dishes, before going out to eat food, or being in a food coma afterwards. I can't wait to see everyone again in a couple of weeks for Christmas! My family from Seattle and Virginia will be in town for my cousin and his wife;s new baby girl since he is having her baptism right before 2013 starts. Below are some photos of pugs, pekepoos, pho, Korean BBQ, butter waffles, driving back to the bay area, and lovely sister sister time. Hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving as well!

Washed Out

I don't usually like using the flash on my Minolta AF2 because it makes everything in the photo appear washed out. The above photo was taken on the way to eat some delicious Thai food on Larkin Street. Despite the fact that my face blends in with the white paneling on the house behind me, this is the last picture I have of myself before I chopped off all my mermaid hair and got my bangs re-trimmed. I have to say that having bangs again makes me feel more at ease because I can hide behind my fringe. I'm content at being the wallflower.

The above photos are from Halloween at my cousin's apartment. Their pumpkins were just too amazing not to capture. Their pumpkins (The Wicker Man and Scary Monster Face) are being displayed on this vintage tiki bar from the 1970's that my cousin's girlfriend dragged in from the street. Someone left this bar out after moving out of their building. Everytime I see the tiki bar, I think of her trying to drag this huge piece of furniture up the 3 or 4 flights of stairs up to their apartment on the top floor. That's dedication!

What are your plans for Thanksgiving? Z and I will be heading down to Southern California to help my mom and sister cook up a fest. We're trying to keep things fresh and healthy in honor of mom's recovery from cancer/chemo. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving with your friends and loved ones. Cheers!

Gobble Gobble!

This Thanksgiving was a success! Special thanks to my sister and my aunt for helping my mom out this year since she could not cook. Unfortunately, some of the side effects of the chemo makes her extremities hyper-sensitive to cold. It proved quite difficult for her to even just open up the fridge and to retrieve the vegetables or frozen goods. My sister's turkey was super delicious. The turkey was set in brine since the previous Sunday and had this beautiful golden brown color from brushing it continuously with sage butter.

I had taken more photos with my Pentax K1000, but they did not turn out so well. Target did a horrible job scanning them since most of the pictures had this hideous horrible green scan line in the center. Here are some photos that managed to show up and the other photos are taken from my cousins:

I finally got to wear the Alex Chung for Madewell dress that I had been lusting for, but I got so excited with the cooking and total gluttony that I had little food stains on my dress at the end of the night. (I did manage to get them out later) I'm thankful that I have such a great family whom are very supportive with everything that has happened to my mom earlier this fall. Now that Thanksgiving is over, I can't wait to see my family again for Christmas! Cheers!
