Black & White

For my birthday, I purchased Vanessa of The Velvet Bird's Bookworm dress. It arrived just in time for me to try it out for a night at the War Memorial Opera house. Z had purchased tickets to see Moby Dick for one of his assignments for his grad school class, so I was interested in how this literary masterpiece would be translated to a live-action opera.  Even though you cannot tell from my grainy film photos, the dress has little black dots all over that perfectly complement the black bow on the collar. The dress has brown corduroy elbow patches, which just makes the dress absolutely perfect in my eyes. I tried to get Finnegan to pose with me in my photos, but he just wasn't having it that night. He even refused to look at the camera when he usually flaunts around when I take it out. I guess he was a little moody since Z and I were leaving him alone for the evening.

I absolutely love this coat from H&M and have been wearing it nonstop. I think it is just because I am partial to pairing brown with black. I never truly followed that cardinal fashion rule of not pairing black with brown or navy with black. People should just wear what they feel like wearing...the rules should be that there are no rules! Also...apologies for the chronic bitch face (CBF). I can't seem to stop making it in photos because I feel so awkward and don't know what to do with myself.   -____-

Fishy Eye

Here are some photos that I captured awhile ago using my Lomo Fisheye camera. It took a bit getting used to since the subject of the photo should be closer to the lens than normal. Taking photos up close (and not really using the view finder) proved to be more difficult than I initially considered. You can't really be certain exactly how the photo will turn out...but I think these photos were a nice surprise. These snap shots are from random parts of San Francisco and Ventura. I would keep my camera in my purse and take photos of the passing scenery while out running errands. I walk by some of these houses/buildings everyday and sometimes it takes looking through different lens to realize the beauty in mundane things.

Bows & Chiffon

It is no surprise that I will immediately fall for a dress that has any of the following components: lace, chiffon, velvet, peter pan collars, or bows. Even though this dress from Forever 21 is not vintage, it is definitely vintage inspired with the layered chiffon and shift shape. This dress is an old one, but it is one of my favorite dresses for when I want to go out and look fancy fine without much fuss. When I was younger, I never ever wanted to wear dresses because I thought they were such a hassle, but now I cannot stop wearing them.  Dresses are simple and quick when you need to catch the bus right away because you're late for work. I apologize for my awkward facial expressions...my sister was making me laugh and it was difficult to look fashion blogger serious in the remaining photos.

Sorry for the lack of updates! I thought that I would be done with my exams at the beginning of this month, but after a couple of canceled classes and exam dates being pushed back, it felt as though I had no time to do anything but study constantly! I have a bunch of film that I still need to develop so expect more frequent updates coming in the future!

Meow-o-Ween

Halloween is coming up and I am so disappointed that I do not have a costume created as of yet. I have a test on November 1st, so sadly my plans for this ghoulish evening will probably be spent studying while scary movies play in the living room as background noise.  For a study break, Z and I bought tickets for the Total Trash Halloween Bash this weekend. Hopefully, I can study hard and then dance dance the night away later.  Here are some photos from last year at Mani and Melanie's house party to help me reminisce and pretend I'll be having fun this weekend instead of cramming a bunch of biology/chemistry into my head.  Z was a magical wizard and I was a black cat. Special appearance by Mr. Finnegan McDuff at the end dressed up as a bumble bee. Too bad he looks like a black blob instead.

Night at the Museum

There's something about viewing portraits/paintings from the past...it makes me wonder what the story was behind the painting, who the person was, and what he or she was thinking. I  do not think I could have had the patience to sit for hours while an artist painted my likeness onto canvas, but I'm ok with admiring these works from afar. These photos were taken while visiting the various museums comprising Washington, D.C's center and sadly before my flight back. The District was quite beautiful and I wish I had more time to check out everything...as was the theme for most of the trip. Z and I will definitely plan another visit soon now that his sisters are out there on the East coast...and possibly for future school visits (fingers crossed). I present to you now...photos of Z and I being awkward in front of various paintings and animal figures. My favorite was posing in front of an elegant lady and her prized pet pug...my dream! I will have to set up and commission someone for a  portrait painting session of Finnegan and I. I'd like to hang it in my huge library (adjacent to my huge music room in my huge mansion) when I'm an old lady. Crazy pug lady dreams!
