Tan & Black, Back 2 Back

While back in San Diego, I thrifted this brown wool blazer. I was immediately drawn to the golden buttons on the front and the nice warm brown color. I have always loved pairing black with brown and I don't really think that cardinal fashion rule about these two color combinations is correct. I think they are absolutely perfect together! It never really gets too warm here in San Francisco, but when the winds are not as cold or the fog has not yet rolled in, I find that this blazer is warm enough to keep me warm and not as heavy to drag around like my winter coat.

Z's face in this photo kills me. I can never get a decent picture of us together. Sigh.
My lovely sister and I being tourists at Fisherman's Wharf. I love her to death and wished she lived closer to me. Come visit me soon, Sister! I miss you!
Relaxing back at our apartment after a long day visiting MoMa and North Beach with my sister.
In other news, Z and I booked our tickets to visit New York and Maryland this coming August. Z's two younger sisters are going to start college in New York, so the family is having one last hurrah together at their beach house in Ocean City, Maryland before saying good-bye to them in New York. I am pretty excited since I have never actually been to any of these states before so this should definitely be an adventure to look forward to!

Bernal Hill

Bernal Heights is the neighborhood that Z and I call home.  There is a huge unleashed dog park called Bernal Heights Hill and from the top you can see the whole city-scape and bay. It's quite beautiful and makes for a great place to view the 4th of July fireworks from. We also live near Precita Park which is a nice bonus because it is never as crowded as Dolores Park would be. Living here on the hill has been fun, but I'm ready to explore different neighborhoods in the City. It's a bit of a challenge to find a place that is at a reasonable price that will except a morbidly obese pug as a co-tenant, but I am sure that we will eventually find something. Below are some past photos of Z and I walking around our little hood:
The end of the month is usually the time when you see random items on the sidewalk.

I've been experimenting more with pinning my bangs up or to the side. I am toying with the idea of growing them out so that I can get them re-shaped/trimmed properly, but every time they reach my temples I get the urge to grab some scissors and cut them again. It's hard not to do so, but I guess I am going to have to work on my will power. Julie from Orchid Grey's post about growing out your bangs definitely inspired and encouraged me keep going, so I'll see how it goes this summer.

Mother's Daughter

One of the local vintage shops in the Bay area that continually showcases unique, hand-picked, and quality vintage clothing is Mother's Daughter. The owner, Hayden Shiebler, (she also has great passion for film photography and has just begun experimenting with video work) started this online shop to offer well constructed vintage. Vintage is usually something considered "old", but to Hayden selling vintage and styling her pieces enables her to give it new meaning through her own ideas and aesthetics. The look-books are even more striking to me because they are shot around the Bay area and it is interesting to see familiar landscapes through a different perspective. Below are some photos taken from Mother's Daughter different look-books. The photography is absolutely beautiful. Make sure to check out Mother's Daughter shop or facebook page for the latest updates.

Instagram Diary:

1. New favorite yogurt: Fig and Plum. It is so delicious!

2. Outfit: Green corduroy jumper, tweed jacket, and black woven shoes (thrifted)

3. Pocket Shot of Whiskey: Available at all liquor stores in the Tenderloin for $2. Deadly choice.

4. I'm addicted to this new photo app called PriPri Marron. I <3 it because I can make my photos look super kawaii! >(^_^)<

5. Jenny and I checking out the exhibit at White Walls in the Tenderloin. The lady that photobombed our picture was stalking us for our canned/bottled alcoholic beverages.

6. Another PriPri Marron picture of Finnegan because I have no life and I am pug obsessed.

It's All Good in the Neighborhood!

I found an old disposable camera while cleaning up around the apartment. Z and I decided to snap some photos around our neighborhood while out on a trip to get some Mission Mini's (cupcakes) and coffee. I love film and how you have to think about each photo in regards to the lighting and the framing. Each photo seems a bit special because more thought went into its composition. But seriously...I just love the way that film looks. Instant time travel!

We stopped by a thrift shop on Mission and I found this beautiful vintage hat that I immediately wore for the rest of the day. I tried to imagine what kind of lady this hat once belonged to and what kind of occasion she might wear it for. Z just laughs at me and my admiration for "hip granny style" items.

The skirt I am wearing was altered from an ankle length one. My mom showed me how to cut off the excess fabric and hem it into my desired length. Even though my sewing skills are still in dire need of practice and supervision, I love this skirt. It is one of my favorite skirts that I tend to wear as default on days I can't think of anything to wear.  Thanks Mom!
